Employee Forum honors Folt for her ‘courageous leadership’
The Employee Forum on Feb. 6 passed a resolution honoring former Chancellor Carol L. Folt, who left office at the end of January.
The resolution said Folt has “served the entire University community with distinction, dignity and honor through difficult times and in so doing has demonstrated courageous leadership for this institution.”
Specifically citing her decision last month to remove the base of the Confederate Monument, the resolution said Folt has “demonstrated commitment, courage and respect to create a safer and more inclusive environment” for staff, faculty and students.
The forum also gave final approval to a resolution urging changes to the current UNC System Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy to address “SHRA employees’ disparate treatment and loss of earned leave.”
Specially, the resolution asks the chancellor or chancellor’s designees, along with the University Office of Human Resources, to advocate for:
- Removing Condition 2 (Suspended Operations) from the existing policy;
- Vesting decision-making authority for the current Condition 1 (Reduced Operations) and Condition 3 (Closure) to the discretion of University leadership; and
- Allowing the use of all available personal leave options to make up for lost time. (The existing policy excludes the use of sick leave).
The authority to make the recommended changes rests with the N.C. General Assembly and the Office of State Human Resources, Washington said.
