Focus Carolina: Frank Baumgartner
Frank R. Baumgartner is the Richard J. Richardson Distinguished Professor of Political Science at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is known for his work on racial dynamics in the criminal justice system, among other topics. This year, he has published two books: one that looks at the death penalty in the modern era and the other that takes a comprehensive look at 20 million traffic stops in North Carolina and focuses on racial profiling and the high costs and low dividends of diverting the traffic safety function of traffic patrols to the war on crime.
