If you are a U.S. citizen and a North Carolina resident, you need to register to vote on or before Oct. 8 in order to vote in the presidential election this fall. (The form needs to be postmarked by Oct. 8). If you are currently registered to vote in North Carolina but have moved to a new county, this is a new voter registration.

If you are already registered to vote in North Carolina but have moved within the same county since you registered, you need to notify your county board of elections of your new address by Oct. 8 in order to vote in the presidential election this fall. Check the box on the form "change of information" (Forms need to be postmarked by Oct. 8.).

You can go to the following site and print out voter registration forms for you and your family and friends: www.app.sboe.state.nc.us/pdf/form06.pdf. The form can be placed in an envelop and mailed.

If you are an Orange County resident, the form can be mailed to:
Orange County Board of Elections
P.O. Box 220
Hillsborough, NC 27278

If you are a Durham County resident, the form can be mailed to: Durham County Board of Elections
P.O. Box 868
Durham, NC 27702

If you are a Chatham County resident, the form can be mailed to:
Chatham County Board of Elections
P.O. Box 111
Pittsboro, NC 27312

If you reside in some other North Carolina county, go to
www.sboe.state.nc.us/about/directors.asp to find the appropriate address.

If you have a North Carolina drivers license, list the number at the appropriate place on the form, and you will avoid having to show ID at the polls. If you do not have a North Carolina drivers license, you may avoid showing ID at the polls by mailing in with your application a photocopy of a current valid ID card. This can be a UNC student ID. It can not be an out-of-state drivers license.

The political party question on the ballot determines which party primary you would be eligible to vote in in 2006, and also which party you are eligible to serve as an officer in.

Again, the registration form can be downloaded and printed out at:
www.app.sboe.state.nc.us/pdf/form06.pdf.
