TOP STORIES: Last week, the House and Senate forwarded to Gov. Mike Easley a $21.4 billion budget for the 2008–09 fiscal year that provided money for faculty and staff salary increases and funding for several key University projects. It also included cuts to the UNC system for operating expenses.
To a large extent, University employees choose where they live and work — and how they get to work. But they cannot control the price of gasoline. Before adjourning for summer recess last month, local elected officials got a look at a preliminary fiscal impact analysis of Carolina North, the University’s mixed-use research and academic campus to be built two miles north of the main campus.
