Departments are needed to sponsor six-month clerical internships for graduates
of the Basic Clerical Skills program offered by Training and Development.
The internships are funded by the New Careers Training Board. They are
designed to give the graduates, who have participated in a nine-month
office-skill program, hands-on experience and on-the-job training in an office
setting at the University.
Several University employees have already successfully completed such
internships, and some are currently employed in permanent clerical positions at
Carolina.
Examples of intern responsibilities may include answering the telephone,
assisting customers, filing, processing paperwork, photocopying, faxing, data
entry and word processing. To make each internship a successful experience for
both the intern and the department, the sponsoring department agrees to provide
appropriate training, supervision, and tasks of occupational and instructional
value.
In turn, the intern agrees to adhere to the department's guidelines on
attendance, punctuality and work performance. The Training and Development
coordinator agrees to provide support to the intern to help make the experience
a successful one.
