Women's center seeks director


Faculty members are encouraged to apply for a position as director of the Carolina Women's Center, scheduled to open in Fall 2001.

The search is being conducted by the Office of the Provost. The director should be a tenured faculty member who:

* Has experience in University or community administrative or leadership positions;

* Can be an articulate advocate for women's issues on campus and beyond;

* Can work effectively with University administrators, faculty, staff and students and with individuals and organizations in the larger community; and

* Has excellent oral communication, presentation and writing skills.

Screening of applications for the position will begin Dec. 10. Interviews will be in January and February 2000 with a start date of July 1, 2000. The 12-month post will be part time.

Interested individuals should submit as soon as possible a cover letter describing their relevant experience; their vita; and the names of at least three references, including addresses, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses.

Faculty, staff and students also are encouraged to nominate individuals who would be outstanding candidates for this position.

To be housed in West House, the Carolina Women's Center will be a place where University women's organizations can come for seminars, educational programs, workshops and lectures on women's issues.

The center also will provide library resources and meeting space, as well as coordinate campus events related to women.
