A University-wide blood drive is scheduled for Dec. 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 2
p.m. in Woollen Gym.
"Blood drive cancellations (in the North Carolina areas affected by
hurricanes Floyd and Irene) have already prevented 1,000 donors from giving
blood," said Jerry Squires, chief executive officer of the Carolinas Blood
Services Region. "Blood centers in unaffected areas are extending their hours
of operation to make donating blood as convenient as possible."
Carolina is answering the call for help with this drive. The holiday
season is traditionally a time of low blood supply and high need. With a goal
of 200 units, the drive will bring much relief at a crucial time.
Donors can make appointments by calling 96-BLOOD (2-5663). Appointments
are encouraged, but walk-ins will be accepted.
To volunteer to help with the drive, contact Bob Schreiner, 6-3012,
bob_schreiner@unc.edu or Ann Hamner, 6-7291, ahamner@bios.unc.edu
Each donor and volunteer will receive a free T-shirt with the Red Cross
lifesaving hound logo.
