Lecture addresses subjectivity in medicine

Eric J. Cassell, a nationally renowned internist, ethicist and author, will discuss "The Emergence of Subjectivity in Medicine" at the School of Medicine on Nov. 17.

Cassell's address at the school's annual Merrimon Lectureship in Medicine will take place at 5 p.m. in 103 Berryhill Hall. It is free and open to the public.

Cassell is clinical professor of public health at Cornell University's Weill Medical College and an attending physician at The New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

He is a prolific writer on the moral quandaries facing doctors today -- such as caring for the dying and the nature of suffering.
