The School of Public Health soon will have a new distinguished
professorship thanks to the generosity of Barbara Sorenson Hulka, a Kenan
professor of epidemiology who has served on the faculty for more than 30
years.
Hulka gave $55,500 and pledged to give another $333,000 over the next four
years to establish the Barbara Sorenson Hulka Distinguished Professorship in
Cancer Epidemiology.
The University will apply for a matching grant from the Distinguished
Professors Endowment Trust Fund of the State of North Carolina to bring the
endowment to $500,000.
"I just want to do something to support this school, this department,
these people who have done so much for me over these many years," Hulka said.
"This is something for the future to ensure that the good work being done here
continues."
The professorship will allow the department to recruit a leading cancer
epidemiologist and further strengthen its cancer research program.
Anyone interested in making a contribution to this professorship fund may
