Off-campus access to electronic resources now available

More than 100 electronic library indexes and databases are now accessible to remote users via the World Wide Web.

That selection includes popular resources such as WorldCat, MLA, PsycInfo, Eric and Academic Universe.

To provide off-campus access to web-based licensed library resources, the University Libraries have established a proxy service. University students, faculty and staff may access these licensed web resources using Internet service providers such as BellSouth.net, Mindspring and IBM. Users will be prompted for a nine-digit Person ID (PID) when accessing the first licensed resource during a session. Access to other licensed web resources during that session will not require re-entry of the PID.

Some of the indexes and databases are not available through the proxy service. Library staff will work to provide access to electronic journals from off-campus.

To access these restricted services from the University Libraries, you must configure your web browser. Instructions are available at http://vproxy.lib.unc.edu/setupinfo.html

If you have questions or comments about the proxy service, contact the University Proxy Server Team at http://library.unc.edu:9000/proxysuggest.html

If you have questions about the content or use of the electronic indexes and databases, please contact the Reference Department in Davis Library (2-1151; http://metalab.unc.edu/reference/e-mail.html or reference@unc.edu) or the appropriate subject library.
