Stallings Oil owner endows professorship in dentistry

Former Washington Redskin A. Donald Stallings of Rocky Mount has endowed a professorship at the School of Dentistry. The $333,000 gift made by Stallings and his wife, Billie, will be supplemented with $167,000 from the state's Distinguished Professors Endowment Trust Fund to endow the Stallings Distinguished Professorship in Dentistry.

Stallings and his wife have been ardent Carolina fans and benefactors for years. He served as director of the University's Educational Foundation, the Athletic Board and the General Alumni Association. Stallings was a member of the class of 1960 and went on to play professional football with the Washington Redskins.

After his athletic career, he built the Stallings Oil Co., which operates gas and convenience stores throughout North Carolina and Virginia. He also is the chairman of Eagle Transport Corp., a trucking company that transports oil in the southeast. Stallings has served as director of the Rocky Mount YMCA and Chamber of Commerce, the N.C. Motor Carriers Association and the National Association of Truck Stop Operators.
