With the new translation of two assessment tools into Spanish, the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Center continues reaching out to the increasingly diverse cultural communities in the United States.
One tool -- "Brass Tacks: The Family Report" -- helps determine how early intervention programs are serving children with disabilities and their families. The other tool -- "The Children's Engagement Questionnaire" -- helps determine each child's level of competence.
These instruments can be used at such programs as Head Start, evaluation centers, specialized classroom programs and early intervention programs to find out what Latino families think of the services they receive.
The project was financed by the Cultural Diversity Committee of the N.C. Interagency Coordinating Council and the N.C. Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services.
