
A professor of epidemiology in the School of Public Health, Kaplan is the 1999 recipient of the UNC General Alumni Association's Faculty Service Award.
The award, presented at the January meeting of the GAA Board of Directors, honors faculty members who have shown outstanding service to the University and the Alumni Association.
Kaplan has served as faculty representative for the GAA Board of Directors and is a former member of the Faculty Council. A current fellow of the Institute for the Arts and Humanities, he is past president of Carolina's chapter of the American Association of University Professors.
Fordham and Wallace received the 1999 Lifetime Legacy Achievement awards honoring extraordinary or outstanding contributions from individuals, given by the Mathematics and Science Education Network's Pre-College Program.

Fordham, professor emeritus of medicine, served as chancellor of the University during the network's inception and offered leadership as it grew into a statewide organization.
Wallace, special assistant for minority affairs, was the Pre-College Program's faculty sponsor and chair of the MSEN advisory board and polarized support for the network among state legislators.
