A new chancellor for the University may be named by the UNC Board of
Governors as early as Jan. 14.
It's a definite maybe, according to Joni Worthington, General
Administration's associate vice president for communications. But several
things have to fall in place for it to happen that soon.
First, the University's 14-member search committee would have to submit up
to three recommendations to the Board of Trustees. The search committee has
possible meetings scheduled for Dec. 20, Dec. 30, Jan. 4 and Jan.
13.
The Board of Trustees would then have to approve the recommendations and
forward them to UNC President Molly Corbett Broad.
Broad would have to select a finalist, who then would have to be approved
by the system Board of Governors at its Jan. 14 meeting.
Worthington said Broad likes to move quickly with a decision because
candidates are in the delicate position of being in leadership roles they may
be leaving.
