It's not too late to give at the office.
That's the word from Andi Sobbe, director of the Carolina Annual Fund and
organizer of the 1997-98 University Campaign.
"We've already had a good year, but there's time to make it even better,"
Sobbe said.
This year's campaign--which had raised more than $1.5 million as of June
9--ends June 30. Employees' gifts can go to their own departments, schools,
units and programs or to support other units.
"Our faculty and staff are very generous, which attests to the pride they take
in working at Carolina," Sobbe said. "It's one thing to work hard, it's another
to give back a bit of your paycheck."
The campaign raised $2.4 million last year, with much coming from three gifts
totaling about $1 million. Some 1,775 employees made donations, compared to
1,666 as of June 9 this year.
"We may not be able to reach last year's dollar amount, but I think we still
can match--or even exceed--the number of donors, and that's what this is really
about," Sobbe said. "Sure, we want to see a high dollar figure, but a high
number of donors means as much because it shows how much employees care."
The University receives about 32 percent of its revenue from state
appropriations and the rest from other sources, including gifts and grants.
Employee donations may be made directly or through payroll deduction.
