ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION SERVICES
Phyllis Bennett, George Bowie, Rick Kinny, Laurie McDaniel
Four staff members were recognized with the ERWin (Employee Recognition Winner) award. Bennet and McDaniel won in the Leadership category. Of Bennett, nominators wrote: "This candidate is enthusiastic and dedicated-she extends an open door policy to her group which enables them to voice their concerns whether work related or personal. Not a day goes by that she doesn't stop to offer assistance and moral support. She assists in finding solutions to meet assignments ... moreover, she supports our efforts and encourages vision." Of McDaniel, a customer wrote: "She has grown with the system and knows it inside and out. She is willing to go that extra mile and when you have a crisis situation, she is willing to go above and beyond to help get your ox out of the ditch because she cares about P&A and our goals." Kinny won in the Team Player category. Nominators wrote: "This candidate has become the jack-of-all-trades-while continuing support of his main responsibilities, he was drafted to write the subroutines that interface the Student Information System with the PID System and the Loans Management System with the PID System. He remained calm and cheerful throughout all the stress added by the PID conversion. Without his fast and accurate work, SIS would have had difficulties meeting the PID conversion deadline." Bowie won in the Technical Achievement category. Nominators wrote: "Enough cannot be said about the excellent technical assistant this candidate offers the SI Group and most other groups within AIS. His knowledge has proved to be invaluable time and time again. He can always be counted on to provide a means of getting a difficult job done in the straight forward and efficient way. The SI Group owes much of the PID analysis and development to him."
SCHOOL OF INFORMATION AND LIBRARY SCIENCE
Jerry Saye
Associate professor, Saye was named Outstanding Teacher of the Year (1997-1998). Saye received a cash award of $2,500. This marks the second year for the annual award, funded by interest from the school's Bicentennial Teaching Award Endowment established in 1995. A student nomination for the award mentioned
Saye's straight forward teaching style, stimulating lectures, knowledge of his subject and sense of humor and warmth. Nominations cited his approachability and genuine interest in students' learning experiences. One student said Saye maintains a collegial relationship with students and views himself as a facilitator in the learning process, not simply a source of technical
information.
