Silent auction to benefit cancer center

Twelve Princess Bear Beanie Babies dedicated to the late Princess of Wales will be auctioned to benefit the Cancer Patient/Family Resource Center, part of the University's Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.

To participate in the silent auction, send a written bid via campus mail to Anne Washburn at the N.C. Clinical Cancer Center, CB #7512. Bids must be sent between July 17 and July 31. For University employees, only written bids sent by campus mail will be accepted.

The bid should include your name, campus address, office phone number and date sent. The minimum bid is $100 per bear. Tie bids will be resolved by date sent, with the earlier bid winning. The top 12 bidders will be contacted to make arrangements to exchange donations for bears.

Diann Nelson, owner of Tender Thoughts Card & Gift in Durham, used the Cancer Patient/Family Resource Center while she battled ovarian cancer. Nelson sells Beanie Babies at her shop and decided to auction 12 of the rare Princess bears to help raise money for the center.

A portion of the donation is tax deductible. For more information, visit http://personal.rdu.bellsouth.net/~lellen/beaniebabies.html No phone calls, please.
