Beginning July 17, the University's Telecommunications Office will assign a
new exchange--843--as new departments and organizations are added to the
telephone system serving the University and UNC Hospitals. No existing
telephone numbers will be changed.
The addition of the 843 exchange will bring to four the number of exchanges in
the University and hospital system. Existing departments and organizations will
continue to use their phone numbers that begin with 962 and 966. The 914
exchange will continue to be used exclusively for University residence halls,
and incoming students will be assigned numbers beginning with 914.
Callers using the campus Centrex lines will be able to dial the new 843
numbers using five digits (3-xxxx).
