"We were very fortunate to have had an extremely strong pool of candidates for this position," said Chancellor Michael Hooker in announcing the recommendation of Baddour last month. "In the end, however, Dick's familiarity with and inside knowledge of Carolina athletics made him the top choice."
Baddour was among 40 candidates considered by a search committee chaired by Elson Floyd, executive vice chancellor. The panel included faculty, staff, student, alumni, trustee and athletic department representatives.
Baddour, who holds 1966 bachelor's of economics and 1975 master's of education degrees from UNC, has been an athletics department staff member since 1986.
He also has served at the School of Law, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and as assistant dean of men.
