Preparations are being made for a study of the University's parking and transportation system, said Don Gold, director of Public Safety.
A task force of employees and students is being formed to conduct the study, with recommendations going to the Board of Trustees in the spring, Gold said.
The task force will include all the members of the Transportation and Parking Advisory Committee and other people appointed by the Employee Forum, Faculty Council and student government, Gold said. The forum has put forward its appointees. They are Gwen Burston (human resources), Libby Evans (Carolina Population Center), Dianne Hill (biostatistics), Herman Huang (highway safety research) and Eric Plow (dentistry).
Gold said his department has been preparing data that will be used by a consulting firm that will help the task force evaluate the University's parking and transportation problems.
Employees not serving on the task force will have plenty of opportunities to contribute their concerns and ideas, Gold said. The task force will hold open forums, conduct surveys and do other work to solicit ideas, he said.
