Department `literally spans the campus'
Ann R. Register, payroll-personnel representative for the Academic Affairs Library, has been named top campus HR facilitator.
Register, who has been in her job for more than 20 years, was cited for her knowledge, tact and patience in dealing with more than 230 employees within the library's 30 units.
"Ann's position is unique in that she oversees a department which literally spans the campus, since the staff are distributed among 14 individual library buildings," wrote a nominator.
With tasks as varied as managing time records and absence/leave reports, coordinating deadlines for work performance evaluations, serving as parking coordinator, seeking candidates for vacant library positions and keeping staff abreast of employee resource programs, benefits and safety information, Register has been praised by colleagues as an invaluable resource.
"Ann is a fountain of not only information, but wisdom in her role," a nominator wrote. "She possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of the rules and regulations but is quick to verify information before giving an official answer to our queries regarding personnel matters."
Described as poised, calm and well-organized, the library veteran has navigated changing technology and tremendous growth of University programs and resources during the past two decades.
"She systematically tackles the mounds of paperwork which must be processed through her office and enhances the quality of the reports that leave this library," a nominator wrote. "I have heard staff members from the Personnel Department and Position Management praise the quality of the paperwork from our office and the role Ann plays in making certain that we do it properly."
A co-worker described Register as the embodiment of her title.
"Ann is like breathing," a nominator wrote. "You don't think about her because she's always there and is so good at what she does. Ann responds to our needs in a friendly, gracious and prompt fashion, helping us in any way that she can."
Another nominator summed up Register's importance to the library: "She is a jewel!"
