The School of Journalism and Mass Communication honored two employees with its staff excellence awards last month: Pat Bigelow, assistant to the accounting manager, and Jackie Williams, school secretary. Each will receive $250 and two days' vacation.
Bigelow, who has been with the school since 1986, was called the "guru on travel policy and procedures" in her citation. An active member of the State Employees Association of N.C., she was recognized for making the school a better place for faculty, staff and students.
Williams has welcomed callers and visitors to the school for 17 years. "She juggles many different activities--all with good humor and her special smile," the citation said. "When she is not there, the day seems a little less bright."
