Ground broken for Center for Dramatic Art

Chancellor Michael Hooker and College of Arts and Sciences Dean Stephen Birdsall team up to break ground May 10 for the new Center for Dramatic Art. The center will be created by adding 55,000 square feet of classroom, rehearsal, technical and administrative space to the Paul Green Theatre. The General Assembly last year appropriated $8.4 million for the project, but the College of Arts and Sciences Foundation is raising additional funds to equip and enhance the center. Announced at the groundbreaking was a $500,000 gift from the William R. Kenan Charitable Trust. A 285-seat studio theater inside the center will be named after Elizabeth Price Kenan, a benefactor of PlayMakers Repertory Company and the Department of Dramatic Art.
