UNC Hospitals has been awarded accreditation with commendation, the highest level of accreditation, by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, a national accrediting organization. The three-year accreditation was effective March 1.
The commission surveys more than 5,000 hospitals each year, with less than 4 percent receiving the highest accreditation level.
"This is a significant achievement," said Eric B. Munson, executive director. "It means that UNC Hospitals meets or exceeds demanding national standards for patient care and that we are ranked in the top 200 hospitals accredited by JCAHO nationwide."
