William F. Little, senior vice president and vice president for academic affairs of the 16-campus UNC system, will retire April 30 after four years in the post. He will be succeeded by Roy Carroll, vice president for planning since 1979.
Little also will retire at Carolina where he is University Distinguished professor of chemistry. He joined the faculty in 1956 and has served in a variety of administrative positions at Chapel Hill, including vice chancellor for development and public service and interim provost.
As the University's top academic officer, Carroll, a former history professor and department chair at Appalachian State University, will have primary responsibility for the planning, development and evaluation of academic degree programs; the coordination of academic planning and budgeting; the development and review of academic personnel policies; and oversight of universitywide networking and telecommunications.
Judith P. Pulley, associate vice president for academic affairs, will replace Carroll as vice president for planning.
