Some recent undergraduate rankings

U.S. News and World Report

*In its first ranking of commitment to undergraduate teaching, Carolina was rated fifth-best public university and tied for 20th overall.

Carolina tied with Wake Forest University based on a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching. Results came from a reputational survey that asked presidents, provosts and admissions deans to identify the 10 schools in their academic category that showed strength in teaching.

*A separate first-time survey of undergraduate business programs ranked the Kenan-Flagler Business School third, tied with three others. The school's general management department placed fourth in a list of top departments.

*Carolina ranked fourth among public campuses and 27th overall in a comprehensive list of national universities. The rankings appeared in the magazine's annual "America's Best Colleges" issue, released last fall.

*Carolina ranked as the third best value for sticker price among national universities based on costs for out-of-state students. This year's ranking is up from sixth in the publication last year. Sticker price is based on quality ratings from the magazine's "America's Best Colleges" issue, which came out last fall, divided by the total of out-of-state tuition, required fees, and 1995-96 room and board.

1996 Fiske Guide to Colleges

*Carolina rated as one of 20 "best buys" among U.S. public schools. Edward B. Fiske, former New York Times Education editor, and a team of researchers interviewed students, faculty, admissions officials and guidance counselors to determine where the best education could be obtained at the most reasonable cost. Three hundred public and private schools are included in the guide.
