Award-winning biographers of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. will revisit the lives and legacies of the two civil rights champions March 1-2 as part of the Adventures in Ideas weekend series.
Taylor Branch, Pulitzer-Prize winning author of Parting the Waters: America in the King Years, 1954-1963, and Michael Eric Dyson, Carolina professor of communication studies and author of the nationally acclaimed book Making Malcolm: the Myth and Meaning of Malcolm X, will lead discussions about the achievements of the two leaders and their lasting influence in today's society.
On March 2, Gerald Horne, new director of the Sonja H. Stone Black Cultural Center, will moderate a panel discussion with Branch and Dyson. They will examine the guiding thoughts that King and Malcolm X offer today's society, the present state of human rights and the claims of the oppressed, and the current program for action.
Tuition is $75. To register or for information, contact the Humanities Program, CB #3425, phone 2-1544, or fax 2-4318.
