*Susan J. Maygarden, director of cytopathology and acting director of surgical pathology, won the 1995 Frederick B. Askin Award for her commitment and excellence in resident teaching of anatomic pathology. The award honors Askin, who was pathology professor and director of surgical pathology at Carolina from 1981-91.
*Albert F. Lockamy Jr., adjunct professor of pharmacy, was elected a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Pharmaceutical Association, the national professional society of pharmacists. He will serve from 1996-99.
*Alan Cross, professor of social medicine and pediatrics and director of the Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, has been named one of the 50 best physician role models for future physicians in the country by The Positive Medicine project, a national organization that highlights exemplary physicians who are involved in their communities and who exhibit positive leadership in health care.
*Julia T. Wood, professor of communication studies, won an award from the Organization for the Study of Communication, Language and Gender for the Outstanding Book in 1995 for Who Cares? Women, Care and Culture, published by Southern Illinois University Press.
*John D. Kasarda, Kenan professor of business administration and director of the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise, was named one of six senior fellows of the Urban Land Institute, a nonprofit education and research institute that strives to provide responsible leadership in land use to enhance the environment.
