MANAGING DISCIPLINARY PROBLEMS EFFECTIVELY

Course # SD0600

One of the most challenging aspects of being a supervisor is having to discipline employees. It is often difficult even to determine when and how to use the disciplinary policy. This workshop is designed to help managers and supervisors better understand the disciplinary process so they can apply it effectively and appropriately.

This course offers a comprehensive review of the State and University policies regarding discipline and dismissal of SPA employees. These policies are based on the principle that all such actions are taken with corrective purpose, and are divided into the two categories of work performance or personal conduct. This session will also focus on the updates in the disciplinary policy so it will be informative for both new and veteran supervisors. Topics to be covered will include:

*Recent changes in the disciplinary process

*Distinguishing between work performance and conduct issues

*How to administer the disciplinary process

*Alternatives to disciplinary action

*Conducting the disciplinary meeting

*Dismissal, demotion and suspension without pay

*Pre-disciplinary action conferences

*Disciplinary action letters

This valuable workshop is highly beneficial for both new and experienced supervisors and managers. This workshop is open to all SPA and EPA supervisory staff and faculty.
