The Carolina Publishing Institute, held June 3-28 at the Friday Center, will expand this year to include a week of programs on electronic publishing. Paul Jones, author of The Web Server Book, will lead the electronic publishing faculty in topics such as publishing on the Internet and CD-ROM.
Other weeks will focus on editorial, design and production, and marketing concepts. Participants can attend interactive sessions and gain hands-on experience. Discussion topics include the agent's role, copy editing, understanding the business of publishing, advertising, sales forecasting and book reviewing. Site visits to local publishing-related businesses will give participants a chance to see the publishing process as it happens. Weekly readings showcase talented authors.
Classes are held daily from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Participants can register for the entire institute or individual weeks. For information, contact Rachel Davies, 2-1124, CB# 1020, or e-mail rmd.ce@unc.mhs.edu.
