National newspaper design workshop held Saturday

A one-day, nuts-and-bolts workshop on newspaper design will be held Saturday in Hanes Art Center auditorium. The course is designed to provide innovative, yet common-sense solutions for improving papers through better visual communication.

The 1996 program will feature sessions on designing for readers, information graphics, photojournalism and the technology revolution. Faculty include design, graphics and photography experts form leading U.S newspapers.

This is the second time in five years that the School of Journalism and Mass Communication has hosted one of the Society of Newspaper Design's Quick Course traveling workshops.

Registration fee is $50 for society members, $75 for professional nonmembers and $40 for full-time students with valid identification. Walk-in registrations will be accepted the day of the workshop. The program is open to anyone, regardless of whether or not they work for a newspaper.
