Three special events this weekend will mark the upcoming opening of the new $43 million N.C. Neurosciences Hospital:
*Dedication, 3 p.m. Friday--Faculty and staff are invited to a dedication ceremony, followed by tours of the building and a reception. The facility, expected to open in early May, will house outpatient clinics for psychiatry, neurology, otolaryngology and neurosurgery; inpatient beds for psychiatry; an expanded emergency department; and laboratory and support areas. UNC Hospitals' heliport will move from the front of the main hospital to the top of the new facility.
*Kid Safe fair and community open house, 2-5 p.m. Sunday--Features activities for children and adults at the new hospital. Medical and emergency personnel will be on hand to discuss child safety and injury prevention, demonstrate equipment and give tours. Free parking for the fair will be available in the Craige Parking Deck, and free trolley transportation from the Apple Chill fair downtown will be provided. Events are free, but pre-registration is requested by calling UNC HealthLink, 6-7890.
*Traveling photo exhibit, 2-5 p.m. Sunday--"Medicine's Great Journey: 100 Years of Healing" sponsored by UNC Hospitals and the School of Medicine, opens in the lobby of new building. The exhibit will continue to be open weekdays from 2-5 p.m. through May 2.
