The library's bicentenntial celebration, originally scheduled for Feb. 2 but postponed because of icy weather, will be held May 8. Employees and the public are invited to several special events.
A symposium, "Celebrating the Research Library," will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the Wilson Library Assembly Room. The featured speakers:
*Scott Bennett, Yale University librarian, will speak about the library's relationship to the technologies of knowledge and freedom.
*Chancellor Emeritus Ferebee Taylor and James Govan, University librarian emeritus, will discuss their roles in developing the University's current library.
*Joe Hewitt, director of the Academic Affairs Library, will reflect on issues and opportunities the library faces in its third century.
Following the symposium, a reception in Wilson Library's Rare Book Room will feature "A Celebration of Donors," a tribute to the role gifts play in building the Rare Book Collection. The 50-volume exhibit by Charles McNamara, collection curator, will be on display through May.
