Nearly 50 percent more black students are entering the School of Medicine this fall than in 1994--31 compared to 21 last year.
The enrollment of all minorities, including African-Americans, Native-Americans, Mexican-Americans and Puerto Ricans, is up 37 percent from last year.
Nationwide, enrollment of minorities rose 8.1 percent from 1993 to 1994, according to the Association of American Colleges. The number of new black entrants at medical schools was up 2.8 percent from 1993 to 1994. The national figures have not been compiled for this year.
The school also has doubled the size of its M.D./Ph.D. program to four entering students this fall.
