Special parking for those who must work on football Saturdays

Football home games can mean parking problems for employees who must work on those Saturdays or who are going to the games.

For faculty and staff working on game days, the Transportation and Parking Department will reserve 1,100 spaces at eight locations around campus. The lots at Swain/Hill, Beard, Peabody, Bynum, Rosenau and the law school and portions of the Craig and Health Affairs parking decks will be monitored from 8 a.m. until 20 minutes after kickoff on game day.

Any employee with a parking permit can gain access to any reserved employee lot. Employees without regular permits may arrange for special permits through the Special Events Division of the Department of Transportation and Parking by calling 2-5046.

Employees going to the games may want to take advantage of the park-and-ride lots around town, including the new Southern Village lot off N.C. 15-501. Other lots are at University Mall, the Friday Center and Carrboro Plaza.

Parking is free, but the bus trip costs $3 for round-trip and $2 for one-way. Buses will begin running a continuous shuttle 90 minutes before kickoff and end 10 minutes before kickoff. They will start again during the third quarter.

Home games are on Sept. 2, Sept. 30, Oct. 7, Oct. 21, Nov.11 and Nov. 18.
