Create e-mail account easily

Faculty, staff and students do not need to come the Office of Information Technology to create a free e-mail account. It can be set up by using the freemail program from any computer lab or university computer connected to the network.

Just select e-mail or telnet to email.unc.edu and login as freemail, and follow the instructions. The freemail program also lists the responsiblities and guidelines concerning your new account, which OIT requests that you read.

After you answer all the prompts, your user ID will be created overnight.

OIT requests that faculty, staff and students use the freeware program and only come to its Technical Assistance Center to set up an e-mail account if they have a problem using the freeware program.

Computer labs are located in Davis Library (room 3010), Greenlaw (room 221), Health Sciences Library (basement), Law Library, McGavran-Greenberg (room 2308), Undergraduate Library (basement) and Venable (room 307). Several residence halls also have labs.

Computers linked directly to the University information system are in the lobby of Bynum Hall, South Building, Vance and Manning halls, and the Student Union next to the information desk.
