Weekend snow falls with minimal disruptions

Students make their way across Polk Place, above, as the 6
inches of sleet and snow that blanketed campus Jan. 29–30 provide a quiet
interlude between the work that Facilities
Services’ buildings and grounds crews did to prepare for the storm and to clean
up afterwards. The photo below at right shows the Grounds Department’s Chris Carideo
filling a 300-gallon tank with salt brine in anticipation of a snowfall that
didn’t materialize earlier in the month. The brine
application – intended to prevent the formation of bonded snow and ice
for easier removal – was repeated on campus roads and sidewalks Jan.
28–29. Below at left, a member of the grounds crew works to clear a
parking lot near Hamilton Hall Feb. 1.
