The Whizzing Gizmo

MacArthur Foundation “Genius” Award recipient Elizabeth Streb brings her STREB team of daredevil performers to Memorial Hall Feb. 19–20 for 8 p.m. performances as part of the CHAT (Collaborations: Humanities, Arts & Technology) Festival. The group has backgrounds in ballet, modern dance, martial arts, acrobatics and circus skills, and it uses experimental technologies such as the Whizzing Gizmo, shown here, to create a new vocabulary of performance. To see the Gizmo in action, refer to snipurl.com/u8uny. For STREB tickets, see carolinaperformingarts.org.

Carolina Jazz Festival

Blanchard

Grammy Award winning trumpeter Terence Blanchard will perform Feb. 26 at Memorial Hall at 8 p.m. as part of the Carolina Jazz Festival. For tickets and prices, see carolinaperformingarts.org. Many festival events will be free and open to the public, such as the Meet the Artists and Faculty Jazz Jam on Feb. 24 in Hill Hall’s auditorium at 4 p.m.

Among those featured will be Jim Ketch on trumpet, Stephen Anderson on piano, Jason Foureman on bass, Thomas Taylor on drums – all from Carolina – and as guest artists, Jason Marsalis on drums and vibes and Ivan Renta on tenor sax.
