The School of Law plans to move to Carolina North.

The possibility of such a move has been talked about for a while but grew more serious in spring 2007 after a report from SmithGroup identified an array of structural deficiencies in the current building on Ridge Road.

The plan to move became official Feb. 15 when law school Dean Jack Boger announced that the school intended to pursue construction of a new building at Carolina North. This makes the law school the first academic program to commit to locating at the University’s new mixed-use academic campus.

2008 distinguished teaching awards announced

The University has announced the recipients of the 2008 University Teaching Awards, the highest campuswide recognition for teaching excellence.

The 21 honorees, selected in nine categories, were recognized during halftime of the Carolina-Virginia Tech men’s basketball game. They will be recognized by Chancellor James Moeser at an awards banquet this spring.

The University Committee on Teaching Awards, affiliated with the Office of the Provost, reviews nominees, collects additional information and recommends nominees to the chancellor on six of the nine award categories. Separate committees in the College of Arts and Sciences choose winners of the Sanders and Sitterson awards, working closely with the campuswide committee. Fellows in the Johnston Scholarship Program nominate and select the Johnston Award winner and also work with the campuswide committee.

The Gazette will publish an insert in an upcoming issue that provides more information about the awards and award winners.
