Yaakov
Ariel
Associate
professor of religious studies, Ariel has been awarded the American
Society of Church History's Albert C. Outler Prize, given for
the best book on ecumenical church history published during
the past two years. He received the award for "Evangelizing
the Chosen People: Missions to the Jews in America, 1880-2000."
Alan
W. Cross
Professor
in the School of Medicine, Cross recently was selected as a
distinguished finalist for the 2002 Humanism in Medicine Award.
The award is given annually by the Association of American Medical
Colleges (AAMC), with support from the Pfizer Medical Humanities
Initiative.
Cross, a professor of maternal and child health, pediatrics
and social medicine, is one of 53 honorees nationwide who were
nominated by student representatives of the AAMC.
The award went to Edward F. Bell, a professor of pediatrics
at the University of Iowa.
