Microsoft media to be renewed July 1

As Carolina prepares to renew its contract with Microsoft effective July 1,

faculty and staff need to be aware that Microsoft software obtained through this University program cannot be used for personal purposes but rather can only be used for work-related business and research.

Also, faculty, staff and departments can no longer obtain the Microsoft media CDs through the RAM Shop. They can obtain the media CDs by e-mailing software@unc.edu for the CD Exchange Program. In the program, users exchange a blank CD of their own for one with a copy of the requested software, which is provided at no cost.

The software titles offered under this agreement are:

Windows;

Office (for PCs and Macs);

Front Page;

Visual Studio.net; and

Publisher.

Additional parking available during summer session

Parking is available at the Wesley Foundation, across Pittsboro Street from the Carolina Inn, from May 20 to Aug. 16. The cost is $100.

For more information, call 942-2152.

Plans under way for University-wide blood drive

The 2002 University-wide 14th annual Red Cross blood drive kickoff meeting for recruiters will be at the Carolina Club on June 12 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Winners of the blood drive theme and logo will be announced and a presentation will be given by the Red Cross. The theme and logo this year is a composite submitted by three people: Melissa Hobgood, Graduate School; David MacDonald, School of Information and Library Sciences; and Dail White, School of Pharmacy.

This year's blood drive will be July 23 at the Dean E. Smith Center. Employees interested in becoming a recruiter for their area should contact Katrina Coble at 962-1801 or coble@cs.unc.edu

No preregistration is required; participants may select the session most convenient to their schedule. Workshops will be held on June 11 from 2 to 4 p.m., and from 10 a.m. to noon on June 12 and July 16 and 18.

New web site offers local health information

NC Health Info has launched a web site, www.nchealthinfo.org, that features local health resources for North Carolina. The first phase focuses on collecting electronic health-related resources and links from across the state, such as area cancer support groups, medical specialists, immunization clinics and sites that address public health issues, such as the safety of eating fish caught in a local stream or the health consequences of hog waste.

Information about these resources is being sought from health care workers, public health professionals, librarians and individuals experienced in finding local health resources.

To contact NC Health Info, see www.nc healthinfo.org/contact.cfm
