Employees urged to support the needs of the University through campaign

By now, all employees should have received a 2002 University Campaign brochure, gift form and return envelope.

Send them back, campus leaders say, and give back to an institution that has offered so much to you.

"The University provides many opportunities for faculty, staff and students," said Tommy Griffin, chair of the Employee Forum. "I feel we should support the needs of the University community, especially in times of tight budgets. We have received so much and should consider giving back to those areas of the University that are important to us."

Faculty Chair Sue Estroff echoed that theme.

"The prosperity of the University and its faculty are intertwined," Estroff said. "In these challenging times, all of us recognize the covenant we have with Chapel Hill.

"When we can give, we will. When the University can reciprocate, it will. Our futures are intertwined. Each of us makes the light at the top of the hill shine on, and shine brighter."

The gift form includes an extensive list of specific designations covering various schools or programs. If a preferred designation is not on the gift form, employees are welcome to designate any part of campus they would like to support.

"We want each gift to be a meaningful one for each employee," said Jeff Terry, associate director of the Annual Fund. "Wherever a gift is designated, the money will be spent there."

Last year 1,493 employees gave $780,588 to Carolina academics and programs. This year, Terry said, "We hope to top these figures."

Employees can make gifts through June 30 by check, credit card or payroll deduction. Anyone who has questions or who did not receive the information packet should contact Terry at 843-6143 or jeff_terry@unc.edu

All donors' names will appear in a Gazette honor roll in the fall.
