UNC HOMEPAGE
Tar Heel Town, an outdoor festival of food, music and family-oriented activities, is the place to be before a home Tar Heel football game. Located in Polk Place, it features fun and games for families, as well as gives them the chance to greet the players as they walk from the Old Well to Kenan Stadium.
Tar Heel Town begins two-and-a-half hours before each home game and closes 30 minutes before kickoff. New this year in Tar Heel Town is a big screen TV featuring live college football games, a Carolina pre-game show broadcast live by Oldies 100.7, North Carolina barbecue from Parker's of Wilson, appearances by past Carolina football legends, interactive games for fans of all ages and a drawing for a 60-inch TV or satellite system which will be awarded at the end of the season.
Tar Heel Town is free; merchandise from Student Stores and concessions are available for purchase. Parker's will sell barbecue and a beverage for $6.25.
Parking is available in pay lots downtown, and the Chapel Hill Transit shuttle service will run buses to campus from the NC 54 East/Friday Center and University Mall park-and-ride lots two-and-a-half hours before game time. The fare for the shuttle is $4 round trip and $2 one-way.
The Tar Heel Town schedule for the season's first home game is:
* Sept. 15, Southern Methodist, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. (kickoff at 1:30 p.m.).
