Beverly Mitchell, Jeffrey Lieberman

Mitchell and Lieberman have been elected new members to the Institute of Medicine, a sister organization of the National Academy of Sciences.

Mitchell is chief of the Division of Hematology-Oncology and associate director of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Lieberman is director of the Mental Health and Neuroscience Clinical Research Center within the School of Medicine.

Jose A. Rial

Professor of geophysics, Rial has been elected a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Rial is being honored for his research relating non-linear dynamics of physical phenomena to seismic wave propogation in the earth and geopaleoclimate studies.

Bill Roper

Dean of the School of Public Health, Roper has been named to the corporate advisory board of HealthMarket Include, which is a privately held company involved in the development of self-directed health-care products for consumers, employers and insurers.

Lucy A. Savitz

Assistant professor in the School of Public Health's Department of Health Policy and Administration and senior health research analyst at the Research Triangle Institute, Savitz has been appointed to the 2001 Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

Savitz will be responsible for reviewing and evaluating applications.
