A new program has opened at Morehead Planetarium, Solar System Adventure, which explores the outer realms of the solar system from icy Pluto to the sun.
The planetarium plans to be open for the July 4 holiday, screening its regular Saturday lineup of shows in the Star Theater, beginning at 10:30 a.m. with Winnie the Pooh and the Golden Rocket.
Also on the planetarium summer agenda is an early morning Jordan Lake field trip Aug. 12 to view the annual Perseid meteor showers. Planetarium director Lee Shapiro will lead a group in viewing what may be up to 60 meteors per hour.
Reservations are not required for these events, but are strongly encouraged. To make a reservation, or for more information, call 3-7951. The planetarium's complete schedule is available on its website, http://www.morehead.unc.edu
