"Sexual Harassment Information Resources" available


Question: Do I have to talk to my immediate supervisor or up-line administrator about a concern related to sexual harassment before I can seek information or assistance from someone else?

Answer: No. There are a number of individuals that a student, staff or faculty member may contact initially for information and assistance with such concerns.

Most of these individuals are listed under Section I.I. of the Sexual Harassment Policy and Procedures (Resources for Information and Assistance). These resources, who are designated to receive complaints by the policy, include the University's sexual harassment officer (2-3026), the dean of students (6-4042), the associate vice chancellor for Human Resources (2-1554), the vice chancellor and general counsel (2-1219), the equal opportunity/ADA officer (6-3576), the Human Resources Counseling Service (2-2656), or respective chairs of the student, faculty, and EPA non-faculty grievance committees.

In addition, there are a dozen "Sexual Harassment Information Resources" (SHIRs) who have been extensively trained and can provide basic information about the University's policy, options for resolution of complaints under the policy and policies regarding confidentiality.

Although SHIRs serve as knowledgeable sources of information and referral for any student, staff or faculty member, they are not designated by the University to receive complaints and do not function as counselors or advocates. Located throughout campus, they display a SHIR logo outside their offices.

HR facilitators quarterly meetings

Human Resources facilitators quarterly meetings are offered in four locations and times. Facilitators only need to attend one of the four meetings. No RSVP is required. Meetings are:

* Feb. 16, Wilson Library Assembly Room, 8:30-10:00 a.m.;

* Feb. 19, 725 Airport Road, 3-4:30 p.m.;

* Feb. 20, 1301 McGavran-Greenberg, 8:30-10:00 a.m.; and

* Feb. 21, 105 Berryhill, 3-4:30 p.m.
