Stewart Parker, president and chief executive officer of Targeted Genetics Corporation, has made a major donation in honor of her parents, which, combined with funds from the state's program on endowed professorships, will create the million-dollar James Howard and Hallie McLean Park Distinguished Professorship.
The Parkers are both Carolina graduates, and bought the weekly Sampsonian newspaper in Clinton in 1966. It later combined with the Sampson Independent and became a daily.
Parker is a former president of the N.C. Press Association.
