Direct Line: Crosswalks

Q What do the new signs in the crosswalks on Raleigh Road and Manning Drive mean? Must vehicles stop for pedestrians?

A The signs that have been erected are approved N.C. Department of Transportation signs that mean pedestrian crossing. They are the same signs used statewide. They mean for drivers to yield to pedestrians who are in the crosswalk. Other signs, including the temporary signs used last year that read "Yield to pedestrians," are not approved for permanent use by the DOT.
