Campaign continues through June 30

Just five more weeks remain in this year's University Campaign, which gives faculty and staff the chance to become "Carolina Landmarks."

This year's theme encourages all faculty and staff to get more involved in the life of the University by making a contribution.

As of May 18, about 1,175 University employees had given more than $517,750 to support Carolina academics and programs. Last year's campaign raised $2.8 million with gifts coming from 2,021 employees. That total dollar amount included a single gift of $1 million.

"So far, we have more donors than last year at this time, which shows employees are as supportive as ever," said Timothy Minor, associate director of the Carolina Annual Fund. "We want to thank everyone who has given, and we encourage those who haven't to join their colleagues."

Past gifts from faculty and staff have funded items ranging from books for library collections to professorships for faculty members.

"I just want to do something to support this school, this department, these people who have done so much for me over these many years," retired Kenan professor of epidemiology Barbara S. Hulka said in November 1999 when she announced her initial investment of $55,500 and pledge of $333,000 over four years to establish the Barbara Sorenson Hulka distinguished professorship in cancer epidemiology at the School of Public Health. "This is something for the future, to ensure that the good work being done here continues."

Please make your contribution to the campaign by June 30. All donors will appear in a Gazette honor roll in the fall.

Campaign materials have been mailed to all employees, but replacement packets can be obtained by contacting Jason McAbee of the Annual Fund Office. McAbee can be reached at 2-2019 or jason_mcabee@unc.edu

Gifts can be made online at http://www. dev.unc.edu/development/contents/makegift.htm

Employees who want to give through payroll deduction should contact Susan Anderson, gift processing coordinator, at 2-8189 or susan_anderson@unc.edu
