"Cool Your Heels," Carolina's employee appreciation event for 2000, will be
held May 24
in Carmichael Auditorium from 2 to 4 p.m.
All employees are invited to attend the event, which is being organized by the
University Managers Association (UMA).
Cool Your Heels will feature free ice cream served to employees by a number of
"celebrity scoopers," including Interim Chancellor William O. McCoy and members
of the Chancellor's Cabinet. Punch, popcorn and cookies will be available for
anyone who can't tolerate dairy products.
Along with refreshments, Cool Your Heels will boast door prizes ranging from
fanny packs to bigger-ticket items yet to be finalized.
Also on hand will be the H.E.E.L.S. for Health Wellness Expo, featuring
vendors with information about healthy living as well as hands-on interactive
opportunities for personal growth and wellness.
"The first employee appreciation event in the new century promises to be a
great time for all," said Sharon Grayden, UMA president. "A lot of careful
planning and energy has been invested to give the Y2K event its own personality
with a new look and feel."
Employees will need their UNC One Card to gain admittance to Cool Your Heels.
Deans, directors, department chairs and supervisors are encouraged to permit
employees to attend the event, provided essential services are covered.
Attendance will be considered work time.
Volunteers -- who will get a free T-shirt while supplies last -- are needed to
put on the event. Help cleaning up afterward is particularly needed. Anyone
interested should contact Trevaughn Eubanks, chair of the UMA committee
organizing Cool Your Heels, at tbrown3@email.unc.edu
May 24 will mark the debut of Cool Your Heels. Carolina's former annual event
thanking employees -- the Employee Appreciation Fair -- was held in the Dean E.
Smith Center.
"Plan to `Cool Your Heels' with us on May 24," Grayden said. "You are sure to
get the inside scoop from a very special dapper dipper detail who want to let
you know you are a valued Carolina employee. See you there!"
